Hello Susan,

Thank you for stopping by and your compliment. I have been watching the (background) ‘war’ between Amazon and eBay for over a year now. In fact, eBay is still hemorrhaging a lot of buyers to Amazon (who is greeting everyone with a big hug . I haven’t quite figured out if this is done ‘on purpose’, meaning eBay wants to clean house and ‘get rid’ of certain types of sellers or if the loss of sellers to Amazon was unintended …

Yes, in eBay’s attempt to become more buyer friendly, the sellers are left a little bit out in the rain. The rating approach is actually one that will be discussed in more detail in the next post.

Hi Svenja –

Nicely worded and informative blogpost. As someone who frankly never seems to get to the bottom of ebay changes, I find your posts informative and concise. I am not sure what ebay is trying to do with so many changes but they must be confident that people will not switch totally to Amazon, if only because Amazon is so user unfriendly! For the moment eBay has power and there is nothing anyone can do about it other than try not to upset buyers!

I haven’t started on eBay yet Svenja, so the rule changes don’t effect me. But I like reading your blog, to learn as much as I can about auction sites. Keep up the good work.

Hi Svenja,

I have also been watching some of the changes with trepidation. I find it aggravating that someone’s fickle response with regard to how I perform as a seller could have significant consequences to my ability to trade freely. Although that has always been the case with feedback to a certain extent, the new rule of ‘4 strikes in 12 months and you’re stuffed’ is very harsh as we are reliant on people’s perception and honesty.
